Where does the car seat go?

My boyfriend and I were arguing about this earlier. Where in the backseat would you put an infant car seat?

It's most safe if you put it in the middle

If you have two car seats it doesn't matter. I'll have two - but the first is in high back booster mode - so baby will be in middle and DD will be on whatever side she wants.  The car seat I use is very long so it has to be in the middle while RR in my suv.

Middle is safest according to scientific studies but ONLY if you use the latch system properly (my car doesn't have latches in the middle). You can also use the middle seat belt and it's just as safe but ONLY if it's properly secured. It's sometimes hard to get a tight fit with the seat belts.

There are usually lots of local places that will help you install a car seat properly. Most are installed wrong. Call your hospital, fire or police department to find out who does it in your area.

I had my seat inspected today.  It couldn't be installed in the middle and they said that I was correct in putting it on the passenger side.

I put my in the right side because the middle of my backseat does not have the hookups. But the "safest" is the middle!

I've always been told, the carseat goes wherever you can get the BEST installation. Ideally, the middle is best. However, many cars can't get a good installation. My sons carseat will be on the passenger side behind me. I have that big awkward lump of a middle seat, and even with my daughter, she was way too wobbley. Definitely not a safe spot in our car.

Technically the middle is the safest because it has extra room for added impact space. But in my truck the middle seat doesn't have the bottom hooks, just the top. So my son will sit behind my husband in the drivers seat in his booster seat and well place our girl behind me in the passenger seat because that way if DH has the two alone then he can shoulder check our girl when my sons almost 6 and he can speak and doesn't need constant monitoring.
