Have you conceived while being considered underweight?

My BMI is 18.3 which is considered underweight. My doctor says I need to gain weight if I want to get pregnant but I know there are really skinny women who have gotten pregnant. So I am wondering how true that statement is or it just depends?

Women who are underweight and don't maintain a healthy weight during pregnancy can have children wth health problems. Child live by you when in utero so while you may get pregnant, you may not have a healthy any if you don't gain healthy weight

I read "The Impatient Woman's Guide to Getting Pregnant" and the author looked at a lot of published studies. She says the research is clear that "maximum fertility occurs at a BMI between 20 and 24." This means that "women who weigh too much and those who weigh too little take a little longer to get pregnant." It's all stats. It doesn't mean you can't get pregnant. Statistically speaking, it may take you longer. Unfortunately, she says the studies show that being underweight adds more time to the average length of time to get pregnant than being overweight. The average underweight person will take longer to get pregnant, but some get pregnant right away. Supermodels have babies and I'm sure their BMIs are lower than yours.

I was about 10-15lbs underweight when I got pregnant with my oldest son. Then I gained so much weight during pregnancy that now I'm overweight by about 50lbs...I gained 81lbs while pregnant with him! :(
