Having a kid at 17?

I had a kid at 17, I really wanna go to a good college because I wanna become a nurse so I just wanna do 4 years and get my bachelors degree instead doing Community college and taking longer, don't give me wrong I would go to a community college but I just wanna do things quicker but I'm having lack of confidence because I had a kid so young that I won't be successful for my baby boy and for me :( the father isn't there, he left us. Any successful young mom stories?

Going to community college doesn't delay your degree. It's just a cheaper way of getting there.

I don't know if you really know how college works, but no matter if you go to community college first or go to university first you will still get your BSN in 4 years if you stay on track. I would suggest going to community college first and then transferring to university. Sometimes they have specific bridge programs just for nursing.

I second the community college to get your prerequisites done and then transfer over. Good luck nursing school was one of the hardest things I've ever done in life.

Not my story but I have a great friend who had a baby boy at 16. She proved so many people and the statistics wrong. The father wasn't involved at all, he was very abusive to her while pregnant and she got full custody shortly after his sons birth. She struggled a lot and had to make sacrifices but now her son is turning 9 and she graduated this year with her master's degree. She first achieved her associates and than bachelors but decided to go all the way for her master's. Through her years of college she met another amazing man, got married and they had a second son. She also went to a private 4 year college. If you put your mind to it and have a good support system you can do it. Just one goal at a time! Even just finishing high school you've already beat one statistic. Good luck!

My mom didn't have her kids young, but she did go back to college in her 30's with five kids at home, a good for nothing husband (I mean that in the most literal sense, he was/is good for nothing) and she got her RN. I was so proud of her, and even more proud when she divorced my dad and refused to pay him "spousal support" because she did that work for herself.

Just take it one step at a time and you can do whatever you set your mind too. It will be a little harder because you already have a little one to take care off but you can definatly do it. Good luck!

My sister had twins at 17. She always kept a job and worked really hard. She is now a Hospice Nurse. She owns her own house and provides for her daughters who are now 13. Anything is possible, it just takes hard work!

You can do it! I just completed my first year of nursing + practicum at a university and I'll be starting second year in a couple weeks. I know that there were AT LEAST 4 single moms in the program with kids who are 2, 5, 3, and 4. One of them had her daughter at 16. There is also a girl who became pregnant again during the year and she'll be doing second year with a preschooler as well as a newborn (who she will be bringing with her to all her classes). And those examples were just from my class! Of course it sucks to have student loans, nursing school is a ton of work even without a kid, but it's totally possible! And no one will think any less of you because you were a teen mom. More likely they'll think "wow! She was a teen mom, she's raising a young kid AND going to university to become a nurse as have a good career for her son. She's so driven!" I say do it.
