My wife and I have been trying to conceive via IUI with a sperm donor since November 2014. I'm 28 with no known fertility issues, other than six failed IUI attempts in the past year. In November, I underwent my first IUI, completely drug free and on my own natural cycle. Day 18 after IUI, AF showed up. I normally have a 27 day cycle, so I really got my hopes up that it worked on the first try. December, my peak fertility test showed up on Christmas Eve. The clinic I was receiving treatment at seemed disappointed to have to come in on Christmas Day, so I decided to skip this month. In January, I was put on 50mg of clomid and went in for IUI on day 14 of my cycle. AF showed up 14 days later. In February, my clomid was increased to 100mg. On day 12 I had a peak fertility test at home and went in for an ultrasound on day 13. I was told that it appeared that my eggs had already dropped for the month, but they proceeded with IUI that same day. On day 27 of my cycle, AF appeared. March was another round of 100mg of Clomid. My at home fertility test was peak on the 12th day of my cycle and I went in for my fourth IUI procedure that same day. 14 days later AF came to visit. My wife and I were not pleased with our treatment at the clinic we had been going to, so we decided to take a break and look around for other options. In June, we began treatment with a new provider. She explained that if we were a heterosexual couple, we would have tried more than four times before moving on to other treatment options, and that she felt comfortable proceeding with three more attempts at IUI. She explained Clomid can reduce your uterine lining making it difficult for an egg to attach so she recommended I take clomid cycle days 3-7 and then estridol to thicken my uterine lining days 8-12 with an ultrasound on day 12 to see where we were. I unfortunately do not have my numbers, but on day 12, conditions looked good and I took the trigger shot (ovidrel) that night. On cycle day 14 I had the IUI procedure. 16 days later, AF. In July, I had the same rounds of clomid and estridol. My ultrasound was on day 11 of my cycle and again, conditions looked good, one follicle on each side measuring 22mm each. I triggered that night and went in for round six of IUI on day 13 of my cycle. 15 days later, AF. This morning I went in for my ultrasound and the doctor was concerned because I'm only on day 10 of my cycle but have a 25mm follicle on my right ovary, but my uterine limit is only at a 5. I had blood work drawn to see if I had started ovulating. My progesterone came back low but my LH was starting to surge. She told me conditions aren't perfect this month, but that I have a better chance getting pregnant by trying than by not trying. I go in for my seventh IUI tomorrow and really could use all the good vibes I can get. We aren't triggering this month, but I am being put on an estrogen path in hopes of increasing my uterine lining prior to implanting. If this attempt is unsuccessful, we will have to move on to more drastic and expensive methods. Fingers and toes crossed we get good news in two weeks! I'm planning on loading up with POM juice and eating lots of pineapple core in the meantime.
