Tips on taking Hpt pictures
Hi ladies! I thought I would give some tips on taking a nice clear picture of your test, since I've taken a million and found a couple things that help. If you have have more to add, put them in the comments!!
1) Set the test down, when you hold it, the camera tries to focus on the background and causes the test to be blurry.
2) Lighting! Natural light is best, it doesn't change the coloring as much. Also, indoor lighting tends to make it difficult to find a position that doesn't cast a shadow.
3) Angle. I know sometimes you feel you can see the line better if you tilt the test, but then the picture only shows half of the window, and we just can't tell if it's a line or a shadow.
3) Flash is not your friend. Flash will reflect of the reading window, or the wet strip. It can wash out the test, or change the coloring, making it look old.
4) Distance. If you camera isn't very good, sometimes it's better to take your picture from farther away. Up close gets a bit grainy sometimes. If you take it from far away, just go into your photos and crop it before posting so we can see what you see.
5) Tweaks. If you tweak your own test, post the original too. Some filters can actually make you see a line, or give an evap color. Over saturating will make everything a little more pink, including an evap that's actually gray. Inverts can make evaps, dye runs, and indents look like a positive. Posting the original with the tweak will get you the most accurate answers.
6) Focus. Setting something small near the test (this is why you see a lot of rings in pictures) can sometimes help your camera focus on the tiny details.
7) Blue dyes. Ladies, these super suck. The actual EPT +- ones aren't so bad (the ones with the "comfort handle) but the cheap ones... Store brand (they're all actually made by the same company) like Equate, Up & up, Walgreens, cvs etc... They're terrible. Don't waste your money especially when testing early. Dollar tree and Walmart cheapies have the same sensitivity (25 miu) and cost even less. They don't have nearly as many issues, and they photograph better.
I really hope this helps!!!
