Does anyone know how long it takes for the nuvaring to become affective so that i dont have to wear a condom? My boyfriend and i were both tested for STD's and we are clean. I dont plan on having sex without a condom all the time i just want to experience the difference

You're not protected from pregnancy until the ring has been in place for seven whole days. So if you insert it on a Sunday at nine pm, you won't be protected until the following Sunday at nine pm. Then you're protected for the rest of your NuvaRing career so long as you don't have any mistakes happen with the ring falling out or putting it in late. The seven day wait period is just for your first ring and you won't need to wait the seven days when you insert your second ring.

I've been told and read that if you put it in on the first day of your period you're protected for the first week but if you put it in later on during your period you won't be protected for the first week

How long does it take for the nuvaring to work?

During Weeks 1 and 2 after you have inserted your new NuvaRing, you may not be protected from pregnancy. You should use another birth control method, such as male condoms with spermicide, until the ring has been in place for 7 days in a row.
