doctor changes? insurance coverage?

Gone • Nope

the doctor is see a regular OB and has a standard office, I am high risk but no one has said anything about me seeing a high risk doctor and from talking to people and seeing posts (on here and other places) I feel like that is incredibly "unprofessional" for the lack of a better word...I'm having problems with this office now anyway so I'm looking for a new doctor but do I NEED to be referred to a high risk doctor for me to see one and have my insurance cover it? if I have my files transferred will my insurance cover my appts without a referral...I didn't have to think about this until now because up until this point the office I'm going to was just forgetting small things but now they aren't even spending the time to make sure my blood pressure is taken at the beginning of my appt :/...

my last appt was about a week ago and I've been debating since then I just need some advice on how to go about the doctor change and what my best option would be.

If you are on a PPO plan it doesn't require referrals. Just make sure to check to see if the dr you want to go to is in network. If doctor is not in network, insurance will still cover a certain amount but you would be responsible for anything over the allowed amount.

You have to see if your insurance requires referrals. I'm high risk as well, but my midwife referred me to the perinatologist. I see them both now. If I were you I would switch regular OBs too. The specialist won't attend your birth, so you still have to see an OB or hospital midwife.
