Ultrasound confusion pregnant or not? day 72 in cycle still bfn and still no af

So I have pcos since 21, now 29. Miscarried June1-8. Had menstrual cycle July 4-8 levels checked July 16 everything was normal so doctor did not put me back on metformin. I have not had af since! I began getting pains this week so saw my doctor and she sent me to hospital to have ultrasound done. I took hpt Monday and it was negative. Today the tech wasn't allowed to tell me anything but she had the sound thing on and I heard what sounded like a heartbeat. She left saying she has to call my doctor. My doctor then talked to me over the phone and just said the cysts are not the problem and to make an apt with my obgyn who helped with my last pregnancy. Are they allowed to withhold information? Am I pregnant? If not what was the noise?
