Twins!!! How do I know if they're identical?

Just found out at the ER on Friday night that my husband and I are expecting twins. Yesterday we got a real ultrasound but the tech couldn't tell us if there was 1 or 2 sacs or placentas. It looks like they're super close so I'm leaning towards identical. But how do I know? She said I had to wait for my doctor to do an ultrasound but that's 10 weeks away

Even if they have separate sacs they could still be identical apparently. I had read somewhere a few years back that the only way to be 100% sure if they don't share the same sac is to do testing after they're born. I just can't remember where I read that at or what kind of testing they said could be done.

You won't truly know until they're born and even then sometimes you have to get genetic testing to determine. Any type of twins have a chance of being identical even if they're in separate sacs.

Sometimes you may not see the membrane separating the babies. So when you go for your NT scan they will tell you for sure if they are identical or ferternal twins :) I'm 12w4d with twins. Good luck

They are in the same sack so they are identical :) my twins are fraternal because the membrane that is inbetween them! I'm 12 weeks and a day! Congrats to you!!! 💕

They definitely look to be in the same sac so that's identical. My fraternal twins from 4 weeks on had very obvious separate sacs

My ultrasound looks like this and they are identical. I'm not a doctor, but that would be my guess. Congratulations and welcome to the club :-)

That looks very similar to my ultrasounds and they're identical! Why are you waiting another 10 weeks for next ultrasound? Twins are considered a "high risk" pregnancy and most doctors recommend close/frequent monitoring

How far along in this pic? At 11 weeks my twins looked like they were in their own sac. At 16 weeks my doc thought there were separate placentas and discovered 2 sacs. At the good ultrasound, 19 weeks, the tech said 1 placenta, 2 sacs. My doc said that is most accurate. Goes to show early on it can look like anything...time always tells! :) So exciting, congrats!!
