Should we be married before our baby is born?

My boyfriend and I have been together for almost sixteen months now. We were TTC and very happy to let our parents know that. They all asked when we were getting married. We just found out yesterday that we are pregnant, so told our families, and they all asked the same question (but we're all so super excited). What are your opinions and why? We have said we would wait until we had a few kids to get married. I would love to have our babies in a wedding one day but see where they are coming from as well.

Not necessarily. Don't get married just because you feel you HAVE to because of the baby; get married because you WANT to for YOU. That being said, if you all are happy and make it through everything intact, then yes! Go for it, so long as it's what you both want for your own sakes. No one else's.

My partner and I made the decision to get married a year earlier before the baby was born just so it'll be less confusing. I'll take my partners last name and so we will all have the same last name on the birth certificate. That's us though! What you decide is entirely up to you 😊

I voted 'not necessarily' because it has to be about what you and your boyfriend want and if waiting is what you want to do, then that's fine. For me, I liked that my son was labeled  with my husband's last name which is my last name now too, it made me feel like we were a family, but that's just me. You're a family regardless, of course. Also, the paperwork at the hospital was lengthier for unmarried couples, not sure why or the details of it, but that's what the nurse told me. Either way, do whatever makes you two happy and congratulations.

My husband and I got married after my daughter was born  I hate that all of her records from the hospital, bracelet, card, and birth certificate all have my old last name and not my husbands.  I didn't think it would bother me at the time but now that we are are having a second that will have his last name on everything it really bothers me.   I would say yes do it before

We already had our wedding planned for April 2016 and am now due with our first baby in March 2016. Having a baby doesn't and shouldn't make a difference as to when you want to get married. We didn't plan to get pregnant just yet but it's happened and we'll make it work. I'm actually really excited that we'll have a new born at our wedding!!

A baby is not a reason to get married. My parents married because they were pregnant and it didn't work out. I'm not saying that's alway how it goes, but that they didn't get married because they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. They married because of me. Two people can raise a child without being married just as well as they can while being married. Do it when you feel that it's the right time for the two of you. And don't let family pressure you into anything before you're ready.

Me and my fiancé got engaged four months before I found out I was pregnant, yet we hadn't set a date yet. Basically wedding plans are at a halt until we know we can afford the baby first!
