My water broke just after 2am
My water broke just after 2am. I called the midwife on duty (Bridget) and went in to confirm. I received my first dose of antibiotics and was told to begin alternating between black & blue cohosh every 30 minutes. We went home to rest and wait.
Early labor began at 6am. We went back in for a second dose of antibiotics around 8:30am. Even though I was in early labor, I was only dilated to 2-3cm and couldn't be admitted. We went home to wait. Within 30 minutes of getting home, contractions began progressing in intensity very quickly. Active labor began about 11:30am. The hip squeeze became crucial to my ability to get through contractions.
Finally admitted to the birthing center, I immediately got in the tub. The warm water eased the pain tremendously. I mostly labored on my back with my upper body propped up under the care of Michelle. I rolled to my left side for about an hour, but was more comfortable in a reclined-sit. Once my body began to naturally bare down, I no longer felt pain with contractions, only exhausting work and progress. Rosa Marie came to assist Michelle with the final stage of delivery. The last few pushes were excruciating. I nearly lost consciousness and felt as though I was hallucinating. As she crowned and her shoulders cleared my cervix I felt a pain like I have never felt before. She came out so quickly the midwife barely had a chance to catch her. She was born at 8:09pm after a 100% natural birth and my life was officially changed.
