Spotting vs period?

When charting, it asks you if you have any spotting (before you get your period). When you mark that your period has started it asks you if it is spotting, light, medium, or heavy.

So I guess my question is how do you know if it's spotting or if you consider it day 1 of your cycle?

Right - but when you have the option to mark that your period has started it asks you if your flow is spotting, light, medium, or heavy.  Prior to you getting your period, is asks you if you're spotting.   So what's the difference of marking either one?  Is cycle day 1 the day you actually see blood vs spotting (that's what I usually thought) and if so, why does it as you if you're spotting when it's on your period week?

A full red flow is your period where you need pad..other than that if its light that you need only a panty liner it's spotting.

Spotting generally doesn't require a pad or tampon. Your period has only started if you are experiencing a full flow.
