He wants to break up

Girls he said he wants to break up because he can't stand his stress in his life. I was devastated because we were together for one year and a half, we had our fights but we were ok. And now he keeps calling me saying he wants to talk to me and he feels terrible. He didnt even try for this relationship and now wants to talk to me! I don't know what to do. I love him but I don't know if he will change actually. I felt so unwanted the last month, he didn't even listen to my problems ! And today he admited he doesn't want to be with me and feels i am like a compulsion to him sometimes so we better be apart cause he wants to keep in mind the good side of our relationship. What should I tell him tomorrow (when we talk )? He seems caring in phone but I don't want to come back and have to deal with the same situation!
