Can you use a opk?

I know your not really supposed to but can you take an opk as a pregnancy test as they both detect kind of the same hormone? If so is this a positive?!

I took an opk at 10 dpo. It wasn't totally positive but very close. That's how I knew to go get a FRER. Got my BFP that day.

OpKs can't distinguish between the two different hormones (luteinising hormone, LH or human chorionic gonadotropin, hcg). Hcg is the hormone that's only present when you're pregnant but LH is produced by your body all the time so you wouldn't be able to tell whether a positive OPK is because of the presence of LH (which can be there even after you've ovulated) or because you're pregnant.
