Pampering with a newborn

I'm a soon-to-be FTM and my bf is upset right now because I told him that the first 2-4 months I may not get my nails/hair done. I think it is not very practical to get hair done that may get spat up on or products that could cause an allergic reaction or acrylic nails that may carry germs or scratch and poke the baby. I think he's being very superficial. What do you feel is appropriate pampering to do with a newborn baby to care for? If you wait to get back to your pampering regimen, how long before you start getting nails/hair done again?
