Confusion at best...

He had a bitchy, abusive ex girlfriend that left him "emotionally fucked up" (his words exactly). We were having a conversation about how I feel that he deserves the world on a silver platter and I will stop at nothing to be sure that he gets it. I told him he no longer had to worry about a crazy girlfriend, that he can focus on work and his future. And that's want what is best for him. He comes at me with "I'm not looking to settle down. I wanna make the relationship last as long as possible but I'm not saying that I won't leave." How should I take that? Is he maybe afraid to love again? Is his mental capacity for relationships not strong enough?! He knows I don't want to waste time. WHAT DO I DO
