Checking your partners phone?

Is this acceptable, checking your partners phone?

Why would you need to check his phone? Are you looking for something? People don't understand that just because you're in a relationship/marriage, it doesn't mean your individuality and your own right to privacy goes out the window. If a person needs to check their partners phone, there's issues that need to be addressed within themselves! I'd be so upset if my BF felt the need to "check my phone" & visa versa! Either you trust me or you don't. If trust is broken, there are other means to repair it. No releasing all privacy for you to check on my behavior and to make sure I'm being the person I'm supposed to be.

I checked my hubbies phone this morning, I like to check what his sisters talk to him about, but I don't need a reason, we don't keep secrets, I can look at his stuff if I want at whatever, same with him and my stuff. Sometimes I'm bored and I read what his sisters are talking about on his phone, doesn't mean I'm looking for other things.

I used to check my SO's phone regularly, because I was very insecure, but he would check mine as well, because he had the same problem. Once we got over those issues, neither of us felt the need to constantly check up on each other. Granted, I still occasionally have moments of insecurity and will check it, but I never find anything of consequence, so it becomes rarer and rarer that I even feel the need. I think the only time you should really be concerned about checking their phone, is when they are adamant about not letting you see it, that's a pretty big red flag that they are hiding something. But also remember they could be hiding something good, like a surprise party!

I have no reason to check his phone. I have his password so I could whenever I wanted but I don't. There's a bigger problem if I was.

I've always had the same opinion about this, i know my hubby's password, he leaves he phone lying around and if he gets a message and I'm closer to his phone he will ask me who it's from, those things show me that I don't need to check, he deserves his privacy and we are showing each other mutual trust. If he was always hiding his phone, never let me near it, jump to get it when it rang etc then I may feel something was not as it should be, would I look then, nope but I would talk to him about it

I have never checked my husband's phone or any other previous boyfriends. I never felt the need to do it.

I went and laid down for a nap one day, saw that he had gotten a text message and decided to check it for him to see if it was important. It was a text from one of his exes. Which I wouldn't have had a problem with, except I started reading... It went on for hundreds of messages (iPhone) about how they loved each other, how they missed each other, how she wanted him to come visit, him asking for titty pictures, her not giving him any thankfully. I confronted him and he came clean, I yelled and screamed and demanded he cut off all contact from her. He did and I check his phone on occasion and she hasn't tried to contact him or vice versa.

It's trust issue. You either trust or not. If not walk away and save yourself from the insecurities and problems. I trust my bf. Took his phone once. He gave it to me to to use it. Noticed he was texting his ex. Decided to search. Found out he added her on FB they were talking. And also he had porn videos and pics with her and many pictures. I am still with this guy. I no longer want to use his phone even in need. I trust only me. No one else. But I don't allow myself to search people's stuff or get paranoid jealous. I choose to expect any kind of disappointment from people and try protect myself from getting hurt. Quess it's impossible for me to be priority.  I am not that good. So I guess many more bad will come in future.
