To me, it depends on the job and the type of pregnancy. I have an office job (tax accountant) so my first pregnancy I waited until 12 weeks when I couldn't hide the belly. With this one, being twins, and knowing more complications could happen, I told my boss at 8w.

If you had a job where you were around hazardous materials/radiation, lifting a lot of things all day, etc, then I would tell asap to be moved to a safer job position until your maternity leave.

Depends on your type of work. As a nurse, my job requires a lot of lifting, potential exposure to disease, and dealing with sometimes dangerous patients. I told my boss after my first doctors appointment because she would need to know if I couldn't do a specific task at work. So far, everyone has been very supportive.

My supervisor is also a good friend of mine and is one of my mother in laws best friends. She also had problems with fertility and actually never was able to have kids so we had talked about my struggles before. So I told her pretty much right after I found out. She told the big boss a couple weeks later I think.
