First time mom and single, need advice!

So first off, being single sucks, especially when the man in your life makes you quit your job and then leaves you with nothing. There's my mini rant.

Anyways, I had to move in with my family and there's really no room to bring a baby home to, especially sleeping wise.

Do any moms have any ideas as far as a minimalist Newborn-6month essential checklist? Including the best sleeper for a baby to sleep in, such as a pack n play or etc, although I need something that won't take up a much space. I would like to buy one item that the baby can spend his first year sleeping in.

Not having any income is so hard to overcome.
