Deli Meats during pregnancy. What are your thoughts?

Yay or nay? There's so much controversy around it for pregnant women. Any of you eating it, not eating it, had complications from it? I know I love a good sub but I know most research says don't do it while pregnant. What do you ladies think?

I ate it as long as it was a reputable place I was getting it from. There was a big outbreak of listeria from cantoulope once and they don't warn against that so you never really know.

My doctor said you can buy deli meat, bring it home and microwave it to kill any of the baddies and then you can just store it in the fridge til you want to make a cold cut sandwich - that made me so happy because sometimes you don't wantttt a toasted /hot sandwich, just a nice cold sub!

I could live off of Jimmy Johns. I eat it all the time lol and I have with my other two pregnancies as well you're all good eat all the deli meats!!!!

I did I just didn't eat it more than two days after I brought it first day was usually a roll and 2nd day in a toastie so heated my lil man came out fine

I live off Togo's! I just waited til the 2nd trimester. And if I have a sand which at home I warm it up and let it cool because I don't like my sandwiches warm!

During the first trimester, if I ever had a sandwich, I would ask for it toasted cause my doctor said as long as it's cooked you'll be fine.  The risk of deli meat is listeria which can cause miscarriage.  Now, in my third trimester and for the past few weeks I have been craving bologna (totally disgusting I know) which is so out of character for me because I usually HATE bologna, hot dogs or any processed meats.  Usually if I buy deli meat it's organic turkey or ham.  But, I have given in a handful of times and had a bologna sandwich now that I'm later in pregnancy.

I avoided it in the first trimester but I have occasionally eaten it without thinking. Listeria is very rare but can cause a stillbirth so like anything else it's just weighing the pros and cons. Very few things have actually been 'proven' to cause 'xyz' during pregnancy because controlled studies cannot be done on pregnant women so all we have is a bunch of antecdotal evidence and we have to just weigh the pros and cons. I had eggs Benedict this morning 😁 and a latte. I would say to heat it up if you can but don't beat yourself up over having it occasionally.

I have eaten deli sandwiches here and there. It's not something I do often, but I haven't avoided them.
