Me personally, I don't believe outsiders should know when me and my significant other are having problems; no matter the circumstances. Am I the only one?

It really, really depends on the situation. I'm very close with my mom and dad, and if I'm fighting with my SO, I tell them sometimes. 
Otherwise, I don't tell friends until after the fight has been resolved with, again, depending on what the fight was about. Why lie about your relationship? Real love isn't cookie-cutter, and those close to you should know about (within reason) one of the most important things in your life.

my family is a bunch of loudmouths (and I love them) but I definitely won't go to them for things like this. I will vent to my very close friends who I know will keep it quiet, and I'm sure my boyfriend does the same with his friends

Agreed. I had been having problem with my ex husband and no one knew. I had two people I did mention it to just so I had someone to talk to. The one didn't know my ex and the other was my mom that's lives across the country from me. I told her because I knew she wouldn't see him really often (very rarly) and I didn't want anyone to judge him. My dad and others were very irritated that I never told them I wasn't happy. But why would I tell them and have them look at him all weird? And judge him? He wasn't. A bag guy just turned out he wasn't the guy for me. But I still don't regret not telling anyone except those two people
