Are you letting the newborn sleep in your room?

Question

When we got my son at 5 days old we had no choice but to have his crib in our room. With this baby they will have their own room from the beginning. I still have problems getting my now 3 year old son out of my room at night and don't want two kids in there so I am wondering if I just start with the baby out of my room I may stop a problem before it starts. Just curious what other women are doing?
Is your baby starting in your room? Are other children still in your room? What's your thoughts?

I kept all my kids (3) in my bedroom until about 5-6 months old then transitioned them to crib instead of bassinet. I don't have any problems with them staying in their rooms.

I'm going to keep ours in the room overnight for at least a few weeks (so midnight feedings are a little easier during the transition period for each party involved) and try to have them nap in their room during the day so they get used to it.

My almost 3 year old has slept in his crib in his own room since the night we brought him home... There were some mornings that we co napped together but never overnight... I believe the bedroom is for my husband and myself (and our dog) not for kids..

I kept my daughter in my room for about 4 months. So much easier to nurse and then put back in the bassinet. She now hates sleeping in my bed, and has to sleep in her crib and she's 2. So I don't believe it has caused any problems.

It is recommended for you to keep baby in your room at least 6 months to help prevent sids. With my first, I couldn't do it, she was such a light sleeper that she would wake if we rolled over in bed. So she lasted only 4 months. With my son, he slept through everything, I had no issue keeping him longer. Do what works for you and your family.

Usually until around age 2 they are in the room with us. Either in our bed or a crib I have in the room. The crib starts out attached to the bed, like a side car, then we can all have our space. It stays that way until they start to explore and stand up on the edge, then I switch it to a crib and they go to bed there but usually wake up in our bed.

Waking up will be hard enough, now imagine walking to the next bedroom alltogether lol... My husband wants the baby to sleep in her bedroom but iv won the case😃 we will keep the baby in our room for atleas a month.

I kept my newborn wth me until 5/6 months when she was too big for the bassinet and not waking up as much through the night to nurse. Then crib trained her. I'll do the same with this one. Bassinet next to our bed and then transition over.

I co- sleep with mine because I breastfed them so was easier, my longest was 19months he went from our bed strait to bottom bunk in the room he now shares with is brother, never had any problems they don't under any circumstances come back into our bed now. We r all great mums doing the best for our babies with what works for us. Keep up the great work mama's! 🙋🏻 X

I co-slept with all 3 of mine...and will again with this one...but ONLY while I'm breastfeeding.  Once they are done nursing, they get booted to the crib, lol!  Honestly, my firstborn was the hardest to evict...the second and third kids were a lot easier...I'm 100% sure it was because I had the resolve to keep them in the crib, where with my first, I always caved and let him just sleep in my bed with me.  You will figure out what works for you...just takes a little patience and time for the first week or two of the transition.  Good luck!
