Ovulation help

So I am usually aware of when I ovulate bc I feel the pain on my side, and we have been trying to get pregnant for a couple months with no success:( I start spotting two days before my actual period but don't count that as my period so I am wondering if I really am tracking when my period starts accurately and when I ovulate. I also started my period three days early this month and that has me concerned.  What do you guys think and has anyone used a specific lubricant to help conceive a pregnancy and if you have which brand? Thanks for the insight!!!!
