I think it highly depends on the piercing and jewelry. A small, discreet nose piercing, even lip piercing? Totally fine. A guaged septum? No. Sorry.

It's funny. I'm in a lab coat most of the day and working in a lab \ emergency room. I have tattoos and piercings as well.

I'm torn on this because I believe in looking professional for certain careers/jobs, but I have felt upset because I had to take out my noise ring to be able to work at a jewelry store. They let me keep my stretched lobes...I think if the work place needs it to be toned down, tone it down. But of they are all for freedom of expression, go for it. I say respect your employer if they don't allow certain things...it sucks but sometime if you need a job you might have to sacrifice. Not saying it's right to sacrifice but it happens.

It depends on the peircings and the workplace. I work in a law firm and I could probably get away with a small nose stud or my eyebrow so long as I don't wear any jewelry that's too flashy and dint have a face covered in holes. But I've also had some really stupid go nowhere jobs that didn't allow any of it. You'd think it'd be the other way around.

I think tats/piercings/hair doesn't reflect the professionalism of an individual. However, I think it's needs to be tasteful. I don't want to see the inside of someone nose from a septum piercing who is making my latte.

Depends on the profession...I am a speech pathologist and work in various settings (hospital, school, rehab center, etc.), and on every application I've filled out, they have been very clear that all tattoos must be covered and piercings must not be visible (other than ears).

I believe you can. Piercings and tattoos have nothing to do with what kind of person you are or what type of care you provide. I feel like it's a really archaic idea that self expressions like these are unprofessional. Tattoos and piercings aren't some new invention. It seems like we are just holding into this idea that previous generations left us.

Yes, you can have both. I take my piercings out for work and I wear long sleeves. Most people are surprised to find out I have so many tattoos and I have my septum pierced.

At the restaurant I work at only a small nose stud & two ear piercings are allowed. I used to love facial piercings, but now as an adult I hate the scars they left. :(
