The baby refuses to breastfeed has anyone else going through this?
I'm asking this on behalf of my sister. She is really having some problems getting her son to latch.
My sisters new born refuses to take her nipple. He will latch on suckered three times then cries and refuses to latch. Or he cries as soon as her boob is in his face. The pediatrician sent her home with a syringe to fill up with her milk to have him eat from that until he decides to latch. She told my sister that he is impatient and that's why he isn't latching. We have been using the syringe but the tip of it hurts his gums and he will only suck on it about three times then he holds his mouth open for you to just drop it in his mouth. The reason the pediatrician is having us feed him with the syringe is so he won't get use to the fake nipple. Well he still isn't getting enough food because he still won't latch and the syringe is hurting his little mouth.
Has anyone else ever gone through this? I also want to add she has very large flat nipples. She finally gave up tonight and started giving him a bottle. Did anyone else try Andy other tricks to get their baby to latch. This baby is so dead set on not breastfeeding that he lost a pound. He was born last Thursday, came home Sunday, and Tuesday had lost a pound. She is very upset and just wants to breastfeed but is so scared to not give him a bottle because she wants him to eat. She is beside herself because she is hormonal and really wanted this. Andy advice and words of encouragement would really help.
