3 weeks maternity leave???

So, after finding out I was pregnant I told my job and they are pressuring me to return to work 2-3 weeks after birth. This seems absurd to me...anyone else in the same boat?

Doctor will not release you to go back to work until six weeks. I tried to go back to work early after my second child and was told that I couldn't come back without a release from my doctor.

I dont know what state you live in but in FL they have to legally let you take 6 weeks if you wish.

Most childcare centers and sitters won't take an infant until they're 6 weeks of age. I don't know if you work for a small company, or large company. If you've worked at a large company, for over a year, you qualify for FMLA Family Medical Leave Act, which is up to 12 weeks. I'm thinking 6 weeks is the shortest maternity leaves I've seen for most women, on short leaves. Know your states pregnancy laws and how they protect you. If you don't know ask your local health department, WIC office, or other pregnancy advocacy group in your area for help.

My work allows 9 months after birth. Which I will take whole heartedly. Who the hell does your boss think he/she is? They can't pressure you into anything.

6 weeks even sounds like so little time I'm in Scotland and I get 8 months paid and then another 4 months unpaid if I want to.

In RI you have 6 wks (8 for c section) not paid by employer, but you can collect TDI. In fact I do believe your employer has to hold your job for 12 wks if you decide you want that long off, but your TDI won't pay it. Here your employer determines upon hiring you if they provide paid maternity leave. I won't in a restaurant so they do not. Some cooperate businesses do. I would do your research!

That is unreasonable! I'm sorry, but how will your baby start to recognize you as his/her mother? No, my work allows me 4 months maternity leave and I'm taking all four of them!

By law "state law, ny, not too sure where you are" you're supposed to get 6 weeks. 2-3 weeks is way too soon! I myself feel 6 weeks is too soon. There are other countries that give leave for a year. But I think you should do some research and make sure they aren't pulling one over on ya. Good luck hun
