We did delayed cord clamping. The chances of needing cord blood are slim and our hospital doesn't do donations. And there is an insane amount of blood volume in the cord, so I wanted my baby to have it. I asked right before I started pushing and the doctor was totally fine with it, the alternative was cord milking where they message the cord to speed up the process in case of a complication. I was able to do skin to skin immediately even with the delayed clamping.

we did public, I saw it as the same as me donating blood. it's free so I figured why not save someone else's live in some sort of way

We did cord blood and tissue with our first and are also doing it this time around. It's expensive but if we ever did need to use it, we could save our children's lives. Can't put a price on that.

My OB said that most common severe childhood illnesses are leukemia and cancer. If your child develops one of those two you can't use their cord blood bc it would have the precancerous cells in it. She said a child's cord blood isn't really helpful to themselves. It's more beneficial for their siblings
