Paying for the wedding?

I was talking to my fiance about our wedding and how he was under the Impression that the brides family pays for everything. I said traditionally speaking the brides family would but I don't think it's still that way.

I thought it was more the bride and groom to be paid and the families help where they can.

Maybe I'm having a hard time seeing how the brides family pays for everything because my family doesn't make near what his family does and the thought of his family not helping at all seems insane!

So who paid your wedding? And is it still more traditionally the brides family job to pay for the wedding?
