Thrush or milk residue?

Question

My baby's tongue is white, but other than a white tongue, there are absolutely no signs that would suggest thrush. I'm unsure, though, so how can I tell the difference? Does anyone whose little one has thrush have a picture of your baby's tongue, so I can see what it actually looks like?

I read that if its thrush it won't just be the tongue, it will be the inside of the cheeks to. Milk residue is just on the tongue.

Thrush is most commonly on the sides of the cheeks, so if it's on the tongue it'll be on the cheeks too.

I questioned it, too, but then my 2 week old deceloped a diaper rash with little raised red bumps and my breasts had shooting pains in between nursing sessions (not to mention bright red nipples that I had to grit my teeth to keep from yelping when she latched on nipple pain). So we went to the pediatrician and yup, it's thrush.

So keep and eye on it! I noticed the best time for seeing the "cottage cheese" white patches was after a nap and before a feeding, when it had been the longest since the last nursing session to help rule out milk reside.

Oh! And on her tongue were white bumps, like those millia bumps on newborn noses, not just white patches.

Hope it's just milk residue for you!!

My girl had it and it was patches on her cheeks. The way the dr checked was to scrape it gently and see if the white moved which if it was milk it would.
