My mother is insisting on increasing the amount of breast milk that i am feeding my son because he wakes up around 2.5 hrs looking for food. He currently takes 3oz.

Yes go with what Helen posted. Baby's stomach is small and breast milk metabolizes much faster than formula. This is why breast fed babies eat more often - not more at one feeding. If she tries to increase it he most likely won't be able to keep it down.
