How do doctors test your hormone levels? Do you go to a normal doctor or a gynaecologist?

My normal doctor tested my levels twice before reffering me to my new obgyn. It was a blood test to confirm pregnancy, then a beta to see what my hcg levels were, then one more to make sure they were increasing.
