Labor?

This is my first child, and I have NO idea what to expect. Everyone tells me that I'll "know" but I don't know haha.
I started getting these pains in my lower abdomen around 6P yesterday, which made its way to my side/back. I finally fell asleep around 11P. I was up again this morning at 2 and my stomach was extremely hard (had to pee, of course). Now I've been up for ~40 minutes (5A) with the most god awful back pain and throwing up. No contraction-like pains. I just HATE to waste anyone's time at L&D. But I'm also about to go work a 14 hour shift, an hour away from my hospital. UGH! I just want my sweet little girl to stay in there a bit longer. I'm 31 weeks.

It's really hard to give a description of what it will feel like because it's different for everyone. For the most part tho, when you are in labor, you will not really be able to move or breathe because the pain is so bad. For me, it felt like I had to poop but nothing was coming out. I had major low back pain that radiated to my stomach. When it happens, you will know. Braxton Hicks and real contractions feel so different. You are 31 weeks, so it's probably just Braxton Hicks.  I know you don't know, but believe it when you are told that you will, because you will. Good luck mommy!!!

It's hard to say everyone is different. If you feel in you gut something is not normal then go get checked. But in my experience it takes my body weeks of Braxton hicks contractions before the baby comes.

If you feel like something is abnormal, def call your dr or go to L&D. With that being said, I was told if it's true labor, changing position, walking, sitting... Nothing will make the pain better and it will just continually get worse.

Maybe just call your doctor to get checked out to make sure nothing major is happening. Better to be overly cautious then just ignore something that could lead to complications. And who cares if it is nothing, that is their job.
