Moving in together

My SO and I still live at home. We see eachother everyday and I'm basically living at his house already. I spend the night every night.. I mainly come home to get new clothes lol. Anyways.. In 6 months or so he'll be moving about three hours away for a fire academy. He'll be moving in with a friend of his which he has a two bedroom apartment. If he asked me, I would def move with him and go to school out there. However the other night we were talking about it and he said he'll pay for my gas to come and see him. Obviously that's really nice and I'm grateful but I couldn't help and feel the sting that he must not want me to move up with him. I figured when the time gets closer we'll talk more about it. What do you guys think about the situation?
