Day 28 negative pregnancy test

I'm on day 28 and I took a pregnancy test this morning and it was a bfn. Last month my cycle was only 24 days. This is month 2 of trying to concieve baby number 1. I've been on bc for about 9 years and I have only been off of it for about 3 months. Any ideas? I took a first response test.
