When it comes to teaching your kids about the body parts do you tell them the proper words for the part or do you change the name ?

Our son will know penis and vagina and all the actual terms. I see no need to baby everything down. There's no point.

We use their proper names. It isn't a secret that we have them. I do remember hilariously being in the bathtub and my son was probably 3, he came in and said, "Mom, why is your penis hairy?" I almost died. I groom regularly but sometimes I go a couple weeks - not the point. Point is, he learned that women don't have penises, rather vaginas, that day.

I hate questions that are phrased this way. You want a yes or no answer but you didn't ask a yes or no question. I'm answering "yes, I teach them the proper terminology."

My mum told me a vagina was called a whatsit... Lol. So if course that's what I told everyone at school when I was about 5 or 6 and it prompted the teachers to give a basic sex education lesson 😳

With my brother, my parents thought they had learnt from their mistake with me and taught him the correct words, but that just caused even more issues. Picture a 2/3 year old with their mum in a shopping centre. Then said child pointing and loudly proclaiming "VAGINA!!!!" at every woman he sees, and "PENIS!!!" at every man. There's positives and negatives to either approach lol.

I remember when I was little, my mom and I were at the zoo or something and I saw a penis on a big animal. She told me what it was and said it's for babies and urinating. I asked her if all boys have them. She said yes. Well, I decided to walk up to my Uncle  with my newfound knowledge, said "You have a penis!" and walked away. There's plus sides and down sides to teaching kids about bodies. 😂😂😂

Besides the exception of "booty" and "bum bum" for buttocks, we use proper anatomical names (vagina, penis, breasts,...). The reason for not using buttocks is because "butt" is sometimes considered a bad word in classrooms (not sure why). Otherwise, we think it's important for her to be able to describe things properly and there's nothing shameful about certain body parts that their names need to be censored.

I want my kids to know the proper words, but I see no harm in using words that might not be so awkward if a kid yelled it in public. My goddaughter knows what her vagina is but calls it her butterfly (no clue where she got it). She knows boys have penises but refers to them as tweeters (again no clue where she got it), but if you ask her about it using the proper words, she knows exactly what you mean.
