Who has God parents for their baby ????

My bf and I are having a disagreement on if we should have God parents..... I want a friend of ours to be because this couple has done a whole bunch for my family but my bf says there's no point

I have two Godchildren and plan to have Godparents for my baby. My role is to be there when the parents can't. I take my role very seriously. Maybe explain to him why you feel its important other than the religious aspect.

Are you talking Godparents as in "responsible for religious upbringing" or "care for child if something happens to us"? If the former, it's really only necessary if it's important to you. If it's the latter, you absolutely must have some legal document detailing who takes care of your child in the event something happens to the both of you. You want to be sure that your child is taken care of and a legal document detailing who takes care of him is the best way to do that.

We choose to have Godparents and get our children baptized because of faith and tradition. Not so our kids would go with them if we passed. But that is in your will anyway

We're having my fiancés best friend & gf as god parents. His best friend has done tons for us. I don't really have people close enough on my side to have the title. I was happy with them tho. I didn't think it had anything to do with religion. I'm not exactly religious

We have god parents, but we're choosing family because we want her around family if anything happens to us (God forbid). His cousin who's a police officer on his side of family, and a cousin who's VP of a small company from my side of the family. It's important that she stays with family, has structure, has people who will teach her respect, morals, the value of education and so on.

As I said, life is unpredictable. Anything could happen.
