Press on the belly after birth?

Well my cousin is having a baby and I was wondering how bad it would hurt and while there was various awnsers about the actual pain of pushing the baby out but people were also saying the press on their belly after is the worst part. Why do they push on their belly afterwards ? ( lol ik I probably don't make sense)

It's helps the uterus to contract helping to control the bleeding after the placenta comes out.

My experience I didn't think them massaging my stomach after labor was painful at all.

They told me to see if the uterus is going back down or not and it is discomforting but not misrable

They check the fundus (top) of your uterus to make sure it is shrinking back to normal and that it is firm. If it's floppy, you can bleed out. So if it's floppy they will massage it.

My nurse said its to help stimulate the uterus to shrink but it's also to pass any large clots that may form in there after baby is out. I passed a few VERY large clots after she massaged mine and it hurts so bad I was clutching her arm and crying trying so hard not to scratch her because she was the sweetest older lady and she would say I know it hurts honey but we have to make sure the clots come out just hold on a bit longer. And every time she left after that she came back with fresh hot chocolate chip cookies and milk for me from the cafeteria! I was so spoiled. Every night when she came in she had fresh cookies for me and some milk and she would run and get me ice whenever I asked and she loved my son. She said he was just the cutest and sweetest baby she had ever had and that he was so calm and happy it was easy to take care of him. It hurts like the dickens it really does. At one point she got me pain meds to help so I wouldn't feel it quite as much because I was very tender and I was breast feeding which also shrinks your uterus faster so I was having a double dose of pain that day.

I hated that 🙈 They don't just do it once either. They come back later and do it a few more times. Makes me cringe just thinking about it 😖

The pressing on the belly isnt the problem for me it was my uterus shrinking that hurt so bad.. but after i gave birth they wouldnt let me out of the bed for 2 days i remember crying in my sleep and my bf kept saying while i slept he could see my stomach rise up and then twitch back down and then id start to cry... that is the worse part besides ur vagina being ripped open and needing stitches the labor itself isnt as bad to me as the uterus shrinking back down.. but i did have this one nurse press on my stomach so hard she was the only one to do so id scream so loud and all i kept saying was no no stop i dont want u to touch me anymore she was the only one that was rough luckily i only had her the 1 time
