Six years of dating and no ring?

Question

Been together since high school, ages 16 & 17, on and off for 6 years, 22 & 23 now, have a 2 year old together and still no ring? Not even living together? Do you think we'll ever get married?

Edit: We have talked about it. He says he'll marry me when I change. He says I don't do anything for him or help him and I accuse him of cheating.

Six years means nothing if your relationship isn't strong. He is being smart in not proposing yet. You have a lot of work to do until you can get to a place for marriage. I was with my husband ten years before getting married because we started young like you. We knew we had things we wanted to do before moving in together and starting a family (finish school, stability, etc.) everyone always pressured us and kept asking when we were getting married. We knew we had a solid relationship and that marriage would come, but we didn't rush anything. You are still young so no rush.

If you accuse him of cheating, why would you want to marry him? That's no kind of life for neither of you.

Do you want to get married to say your married? Or because you truly love him with your whole heart and are going to spend the rest of your live together?

My SO and I live together, have a two-year-old and another due in March. We too have been together for over 5 years. But we've talked about it and while we are 100% committed to eachother and love eachother we don't want to get married cause we're happy how we are. And despite what many people my age think (24) I feel like marriage could ruin a perfectly happy relationship. I've never even wanted a wedding. He and I have talked about it and decided that if the day come when we want to get married we will sneak away and elope. But that is us. We talk about it and understand what each side is looking for.

I'd say. Look at WHY you want to get married. It doesn't sound like your relationship is ready for marriage; cause it won't fix the peoblems you two are having. Maybe work on you, and look into moving in together, to see what it would be like to spend every waking minute with him.

I could be completely wrong... As I'm an outsider looking in through only one persons perspective.

I hate to say this but probably not. If you have a two year old and still aren't married that's not a real good sign. Maybe talk to him? I had to bring it up with my husband but once I said something he agreed and we got engaged that week and married a year later we were together almost a year and I just mentioned it to get a feel of how he felt about ever getting married to make sure we were on the same page.

Well, you can't be accusing him of cheating lol and expect a ring. Why do u do this? Also, if y'all haven't even lived together that's where u start first, and if you can't put down with bills, food, and needs then hes right. Men aren't supposed to do/pay for everything. Gotta grow up some time.

Maybe he doesn't really want to get married... If you 2 aren't living together maybe he's not serious about the relationship like he said he will marry you when you change and maybe you should help him more... But we don't know all the details but marriage isn't for everyone...

I don't think that means you'll never get married. You guys are still young. Maybe he's just not ready to have the title of marriage. Obviously he loves you if you guys have been together that long. Bring it up to him and see what his expectations are.
