What's going on with "Christmas"?

So maybe I'm the only one but I'm curious, does Christmas really offend anyone and if so why? I've never met anyone who is seriously against or offended by Christmas... So is it the word, the season, the meaning? I'm wondering what peoples (respectful) opinions are. Thanks!

I don't think anyone is really offended by Christmas.

When you hear someone complain, it generally isn't someone who doesn't celebrate Christmas complaining about that holiday.

It's someone who does celebrate Christmas whining about people who don't celebrate at all or celebrate other holidays. The thought of acknowledging those people really pisses some of them off (the ones who honestly think 'Christ is the reason for the season' 😂).

I think the offense comes from assuming everyone celebrates Christmas or judging how someone celebrates. Its not the actual holiday, but people's attitudes.

I'm not offended by Christmas. I'm anti-religion but still celebrate it with my families just not the religious aspect myself.  I just consider it a holiday to spend time with your family, granted most of my family are Christians or Catholics. When they pray before the meal I just bow my head in silence until they're done. If someone says Merry Christmas I'll say it back. If they say Happy Hanukkah I'll say it back. It's someone wishing you a day cheerful day really. What I don't get is why so many people are offended by someone saying "Happy Holidays".

My dad is Jehova's Witness, and as you probably know they don't celebrate holidays. He has no problem though with my mom or my family celebrating Christmas. He just asks that we keep it about giving and showing our appreciation for each other. As far as resenting any part of the season though? He is just as confused as by everyone you are.

I agree that it's silly how up in arms everyone is becoming about these things. But I also think that sometimes we tend to focus on these little things when we feel other, bigger events are out of our control. It makes us feel better to focus our energy on a coffee cup rather than issues like mass shootings or terrorist attacks. The events over which we have no control and little understanding of the mentality of those who take these lives.

The misguided energy is hard to understand, but I can see how it happens. It's similar to a depressed person shutting out the world when a situation becomes overwhelming.

No. Everyone likes Christmas. If it ain't about Jesus for them it is about family.

I'm not offended even though I am not Christian. I understand a lot of the population is Christian and it's really not an offensive thing. I use "Happy Holidays" out of respect for all religions and non religious people, but I am not offended by people who do not. It lets me know they are probably Christian. If someone tells me "Happy Hanukkah", I am not offended. I just assume they are Jewish.

I don't know anyone offended by it. Why would they be? It's a secular holiday celebrated by many. Plenty of people aren't crazy about the holiday season in general, but that's on them. I'm far from scrouge-like

Why? Western civilization celebrate Christmas, Easter and other holidays. Countries of other religions don't - I was in Tokyo last Christmas and no one celebrates Christmas thereand people go to work (and btw I wasn't offended). If you came from country where you don't celebrate Christmas or your religion doesn't, but you're in western country just accept it. It's our culture and people who don't like it can ignore it

I'm curious about this too, as I live in the U.K., and even the fact there's a debate going on about wether we can call a Christmas tree a Christmas tree anymore is rediculous. It may have to be called a 'holiday tree' and saying christmas is wrong.
