"Gifted children"
Is anyone else out there raising a child who is advanced developmentally? I took my daughter to be evaluated, and while they said they won't do testing on children under 5, they did say that it is very obvious that she is advanced for her age. The doctor told me that she is, at first glance, at least functioning at a 5/6 year old level. I was also told that how I approach discipline needs to change because disciplining a gifted child the way you would an average child will do no good, and that if I attempted "plain 'ole discipline" that her behavior is gonna go down hill. I am just wondering if there are other moms, or dads, out there that have any advice in discipline. The doctor told me that when it comes to time out, tell her she is not allowed to speak or cry and anytime she does stop the timer until she stops. I was also told that if she starts throwing a fit shut her in her bedroom, and if she tries to get out lock her in her room from the outside. That is just not something I am even remotely comfortable doing. I want her to see time out as discipline not fear.
