Asking for a friend

Does anyone think that exes can be friends? My boyfriend is friends with one of his exes; he said that they mutually agreed that they would be better off as friends. I've known my bf for quite a few years, though we just recently got together.

He was on again off again with this ex for a few years, which ended two years ago. But I remember two years back, when we first met in person (after about a year or so) he was still with her, and I wasn't aware of that until afterwards. He was ready to cheat on his ex with me.

This makes me cautious because if he could cheat on her with me, why couldn't he cheat on me with someone else (I told him exactly that when we were talking about it)? And it makes me extra paranoid that he still talks to her.

So, do you think exes can really be friends? I know I'm really paranoid, I'm just scared because I love him SO much, and have loved him for years. I need a friend right now!
