Pain Relief During Periods

I am 34 and suffer from TERRIBLE side effects from my periods.  I mean, disabling cramps, body aches, mood swings, depression, headaches, you name it. I would like to know what home remedies other ladies have tried and liked. Please share why you like it and why you think it works.
BEFORE YOU START LECTURING... I'm going to put this out there up front: I'm not one of those dumb women who gets on a website to ask for medical advice, never considering that perhaps I should ask a doctor. So,  to answer the questions I'll undoubtedly receive... Yes, I've asked doctors. No. I do not have PCOS or endometriosis. No. I cannot take anti-depressants because I am trying to conceive, which is also why I I won't take prescription narcotics of any kind. SO, please don't talk down to me and treat me like I'm stupid. Don't act like I don't know my own body. I've been through the whole barrage of possible causes, discussions with the doctors, etc. I am not that woman. I am simply seeking alternatives to hot baths, heating pads, baby aspirin (to prevent clotting), and OTC PMS meds. Birth control is not an option because we are TTC.
What do you do (outside of conventional remedies) that helps with extreme symptoms of PMS/PMDD? Why do you think it works? I would love to be able to live every day of my life and not hibernate in pain and tears 3-5 days out of every month. Thanks in advance.
