Car seats in trucks

My husband drives a vintage truck that he loves. It does not have back seats. He wants to know if it is safe to put a rear facing car seat in the front. The truck doesn't have airbags and all research we can find online about front seats is about airbag danger. Does anyone have any links to articles about safety in the front if there are no airbags? The truck is lifted and has a roll bar so it seems like it would plow through any other vehicle in an accident! Thanks!
