How long will you breastfeed?

so my little guy is 9 months now, and im trying to decide when i want to breastfeed until.  i definitely want to breastfeed until he is 1, but not sure when to stop after that.  the thing is, he loves nursing and isnt really a fan of bottles.  but at the same time, i would love to have my fertility return so i can have another  baby close in age.  so much to think about!  what are you ladies planning on doing?

I became fertile again when my girl was 11 months. We are still nursing and she is almost 2 1/2 and I am 16 weeks pregnant. I plan on letting her and the new one wean when they are ready. I believe that it is important for emotional development.

It's a myth that breastfeeding can 100% stop your fertility. You can still be fertile/ovulate while breastfeeding. You have to basically be breastfeeding every 2-3 hours continuously to have that work as a form of birth control and even then it's not 100% effective. I actually tell my patients this and that if they DON'T want to get pregnant while breastfeeding they should be on a form of contraceptive.  So you could still nurse at bedtime or in the morning for bonding until your baby lets you know he's ready to wean. I have a good friend who BF her 4 kids until 2 each.

I night weaned to get AF back. My LO had almost self night weaned he was waking up at 4:30 to nurse then go back to sleep. So at 4:30 I gave him a bottle and after 3 days of the hated bottle he slept in until 6am everyday. He was almost 6 months when I night weaned. I wanted children close in age. My LO is 11 months old and I am 6-8 weeks pregnant and still nursing 3 times a day. I hope to be able to tandem nurse LO and the new baby.

Was gonna be 1 but she didn't wanna quit so it was basically until 2 but my milk dried up during pregnancy so she comforted nursed at bedtime from like 16 months until 2 weeks before 2 when her sister was born. This baby I will be stopping at 1 no matter what

I'm not sure yet. I always said one year, but I think we'll just see what happens. I may not go quite that long or I may go longer. It may also depend on fertility. We are thinking of trying gor #2 early-mid next year and I'm not sure how that will affect things.

My daughter weaned herself at 13 months. She started fussing everytime I put her to my breast. That's when I knew she was done. I wanted to breastfeed longer but I wanted to follow her lead. I'm currently breastfeeding my now 5 month old and will do the same with him. When he lets me know he's ready that's when I'll stop. I got pregnant again when my daughter was 15 months old.
