Sooo merry Christmas, we all just found out my fil, 65 yrs old, has been having an affair for 6 months...... WTF, 35 yrs of marriage, 4 kids, grandkids, a life built together, and he pulls this shit, we are all floored and just cannot comprehend what he was thinking??? Uggg I feel so bad for my mil, she is a rock and want to work on it. She's better then me

I'm so sorry. Affairs are the worst! They really break families. It's important not to take sides though. Both FIL and MIL are grandparents. You can't take sides. And if you do, don't express it. You're the daughter in law. Support your husband of course but remember that people don't just have affairs for the hell of it after 35 years. I'm not condoning what he's done, I'm just saying your husband needs to hear him out calmly. You're the DIL so stay out of the he-said-she-said-he-did-she-did. Stay neutral

Well today he has now decided he does not want to stay, he is going to be with this other woman. It would have been easy to stay neural had he wanted to work it out, but he let her believe it was salvageable then tells her nevermind, his kids are so so so mad, and rightfully so, he also had this woman come and sit at the same table during a church Christmas party last week (of course this just raised my mother in laws suspicions) he told her she just wasn't doing it for him anymore, there just isn't a spark. He could of left before he cheated tho and saved the additional heartache and pain? I'm so sad for all of them, and really pissed, we are all super close, so this really was out of left field....
