Do you agree with the concept of a father giving their daughter "away"? Seems old timey and barbaric.

Please explain why? I don't understand why this practice still exists...As if daughters are still property to barter to men. Women who ask men for their hand in marriage, do you ever ask their mom for permission lol? Just curious.
