Can you eat and drink before serum screening?

Doctor never told me and not finding much about it on google?

With my first pregnancy my Dr. said eat whatever I usually eat in the morning before my scan. Personally I didn't, but I was terrified if I ate my test would come back positive for gestational diabetes and I would have to do the 3 hour test and have my blood drawn more times than I cared for.
