Why didn't the dr or lab tell me

I got a bill/appeal for the harmony test the other day in the mail.  It's almost $3000 ??? And now my insurance doesn't want to cover it.  Why wouldn't they tell me it may not be covered?  I'm really frustrated and now I have to appeal it, plus probably loose and wind up paying 3grand for a blood test.  I never would have done it if I had known.  She just told me to go do it!  
Has anyone else had this issue? What was your resolve with it?

Don't mean to sound harsh but it's something you should have checked with your insurance first that way you're never caught out

Call your doctors office and tell them you received a bill for $3000 from whatever company it was that did the harmony test. 9 times out of 10, the doctors office has an agreement with the corporation that did the testing and your out of pocket cost is $0-$150.

I had this happen back in October. Received a bill from Natera for $2700. I called my doctors office letting them know I had received this bill and even sent my office the bill via email. I told them that I was under the impression that this was covered by my health insurance, Aetna, and that my out of pocket would be less than $100.

They were able to contact Natera and connected me with a local Natera representative that fixed the situation over and told me I owe $0. I never received a bill from them since then.

Just do yourself a favor, do t freak out and call your office.

It's not the doctor's responsibility to tell you about your insurance. Everyone has different insurances so it's up to the patient to check into costs.

You sign papers and everything BEFORE the test is done. One of which says it's not promised to be covered fully or at all by your insurance. It's an optional test. I've had it twice. Sorry this happened

My insurance wouldn't cover the gender part but did the genetic part. Who told me? My dr,  I would be highly pissed if I received a bill like that. I'm sure the office knows what's covered and what's not.

Most insurances don't cover that, and I'm sorry,  but it's not the doctor's responsibility to tell you. You're supposed to find out what is and isn't covered. It would have been courteous of them to tell you it wasn't covered, but it's not their responsibility.

I know this is an old feed but I just went through this 2 weeks ago!  Got a bill for $7,999, I freaked out to put it nicely.  My husband was worried bc I was so stressed about it.  So he called Natera and they told me oh you actually only owe $150.  Talk about a relief!  Hope you got everything situated!

I think someone told me you can call the company and they'll work with you. The person who told me didn't have to pay anything and her insurance didn't cover any of it. I'm like 97.6% sure it was the harmony test
