I've been with my partner for 5 years and don't believe it's important to be married first. We have our own home and are quite stable financially. The decision was ours and nothing our parents would say would have stopped us. Times are changing and marriage is not as essential as it once was. I was scared to tell my parents and I am married. They were never shy when it came to telling me I messed up or they were disappointed when I was in grade school, so I really think that's where the fear stemmed from. I am not in college married to my husband for only a few months, worked as a part time waitress; I was scared they'd yell at me "how dare you have a baby and you're not fully stable" stuff like that. But they were extremely happy because they were getting a grand baby. But after having my son and reflecting, if they weren't happy then I'd give them the finger and say have a good day because my son is the best thing that's ever happen to me and your child will be as well, so just tell them. You're an adult and they should be happy for you if their not then they should shove it.

If you knew youo parents were that strict, & im sure you also knew that unprotected sex meant pregnancy. Thank God for the blessing and that its a baby not an STD or something worse. I mean you didn't care when you were doing it, why care about what they might say now...

Lmao I felt like a teenager that messed up and waited for a lecture the first time I got pregnant! I was so nervous to tell my dad. But he was super excited and funny. The second time around he offered me a drink when i went to visit him...I said I didn't want one...that's all he needed..to know that I was expecting again. Lol love my daddy!

I went through something similar four years ago. Neither parents were ecstatic about the idea. We ended up getting married shortly after telling everyone. I don't know if your situation calls for that. My MIL actually told me that it was bullshit at our reception, she was clearly mad. But, fast forward 4 years later no one could be happier. Our daughter has brought so much light and joy into everyone's life. I do have one bit of advice, wait until your 12 weeks. At that point you're in the clear to say and you can present your family with ultrasound pics and a due date.

This happened to my husband and I. We ended up moving our wedding so we wouldn't have different last names when baby got here, was married in October, baby due in March, wouldn't have it any other way.

My parents were the first ones to know. His the second. They were both very happy for us after the initial shock because they know how good we are together, and have always worked as a team.
