Last name?

My babies father will not be in my child's life but I don't like my last name for the name I had picked out. Would it be weird to give the baby his last name?

Yes. You will regret it so much. Don't do it! I have a daughter who has a different last name than my other children, husband and self. She cries all the time. Her biodad is not in the picture but will not consent to a name change.

Bad idea.  It'll be confusing for baby in later years. And don't give a man credit when he isn't being a father. Be proud and use your last name.

Later in life when you get married, since the father won't be in the baby's life, whomever you marry, can adopt your child and you can all have the same last name. I wouldn't let the father be any part of it. Don't carry on his name!

Give the baby your last name, since you will be the one raising it. It can get confusing as the child gets older if the two of you have different last names. And you can still get child support if you don't give baby dad's last name.

You know you can name baby ANYTHING you want. I know a girl who gave her son a last name of what she thought fit...it's neither her last name or the father's but her great great grandmother's name whom she never met. Her son is 8 now & there's never been a problem with legal documents or anything.

Your name!! My parents didn't get married until i was 7. My mom gave me her last name when i was born. And i understand why she did it. I was never mad at her,even after they got married.  Now im married and my children will have my husbands last name.

You don't want to give your child the last name of someome who doesn't want to be involved in their life.

Neq is correct! You can give your baby ANY LAST NAME YOU WANT! You can make it up if you like.

I'm going through the same thing. I don't want her to have his last name because I feel like he's not worthy and legally it will make my life easier. But he is threatening to make my life hell if I don't. I hate this.
